清光堂 SEIKODO is the small atelier which specialized for making 茶の湯釜 Iron Tea Pot and 鉄瓶 Iron Kettle. Actually, over 60 processes need to finish making each kettle with dedicated work. Now we introduce making processes.
All works are HANDMADE by only six workers
SEIKODO is the small atelier which specialized for making Iron Tea Pot and Iron Kettle. Actually, over 60 processes need to finish making each kettle with dedicated work. Once two weeks, we pour melted iron into 50～100 molds, it takes from 2weeks to 1month to complete a product.
Since all steps should be performed by hands, we can’t produce massively, the completed Iron Tea Pot and Iron Kettle are quite refined and impressive. Each of them seems like to breath gently. You can feel relaxed and peaceful mind just keeping with you.

型にススをつけて、型と鉄が離れやすくします。
注ぎ口の根元にハジロウ（ハゼノキの実からとった蝋で接着するもの）を塗って、
本体の型と着けます。
型の中に砂を詰めて押し固めます。
ペースト状になった砂を木型を回転させてろくろの要領で鋳型を作っていきます。
砂とハジロウで中子（瓶の内側の型）を作ります。
天狗状と呼ばれる和紙に描いた模様を型にヘラ押しします。
口や作者の刻印など細かい部分の修正を砂が固まらないうちに行います。
吹き竹で型の中にあるゴミを綺麗に吹き払います。
外の型に中子（内側の型）をセットします。
鉄を流し込んだ時に中子が鉄の圧力で押し上げられて浮いてしまう（＝底が薄くなって穴が空いてしまう）のを防ぐために、底の厚みと同じ厚さの鉄片を置いて、厚みを確保します。
下型（鉄瓶の下半分）を踏ませて、厚みを調整します。
こうして型が出来、鉄が流し込まれるのを待つばかりとなりました。
キューポラ（炉）を組み立てます。
コークスという強力な燃料を炉に投入して温度を上げ、鉄を入れていきます。
溶けた鉄の色を見ながら適切な温度になるまで調整します。
いよいよ鉄を型に流し込んでいきます。
型が鉄の圧力で持ち上がらないよう、しっかり押さえます。
余った鉄を外に出し、調整します。
下型を外します。
ひっくり返して上半分も外します。
キューポラを分解します（中のお手入れが要るので毎回分解清掃します）。
錆びにくくするために焼いて被膜を作ります。
焼きあがった鉄瓶のバリ（滑らかではない部分）を取って表面を整えます。
注ぎ口の仕上げをします。注ぎ口の角度や薄さは、液だれを防ぐためにも重要な作業です。
削った部分は錆びやすくなるので、再度バーナーで焼き付けます。
ガスで熱しながら漆を焼き付け着色します。
見た目が美しくなるだけでなく、水漏れやサビを止める効果もあります。
仕上げに銀象嵌をしていきます。
注ぎ口にも銀象嵌を施していきます。
